The challenge
The paper was not the problem. Retyping it was.
Rafting guests already fill in paper waivers before their trip. Those forms need to stay on paper, but there was another job hidden inside them: the guest names later had to be read and typed again for certificates.
On a busy day with several tours, that meant repeatedly copying handwritten names from paper into a computer. The existing process worked — one repetitive step inside it did not.
So the question became: what if staff could simply photograph the paper they already have?
The solution
Scan, review, then use the names.
RCT Names List is an Android app built around that exact workflow. Staff select a tour, photograph a waiver and let OCR extract the handwritten names.
Recognition is never treated as automatically perfect. The extracted names are shown for review, grouped by paper, and anything uncertain can be checked and corrected before the list is used.
Once confirmed, the names can be sent to the office as a clean digital list or used directly to create and print guest certificates.
The paper stays where it is needed. The repetitive typing doesn’t.

Designed for real work
Built for a busy rafting centre, not a lab demo.
The app had to be usable by staff who are not interested in learning an OCR tool. They need to pick up the phone, photograph a form, check the names and move on.
Tours are clearly separated, questionable results are easy to find, and print settings can be adjusted for the certificate and printer being used. Temporary working data is also handled as part of the daily workflow.
The original paper waiver remains the legal document. The app only removes unnecessary transcription around it.
